Products Description
Black cobble setts are small, tough stone blocks used for paving. They're made from natural stone, usually basalt or granite, and cut into uniform sizes. These stones are built to last and give a clean, timeless look to outdoor spaces.
You've probably seen them in old towns, garden paths, or even modern driveways. They don't just look good-they also hold up under pressure.

How to Install Black Cobble Setts

1. Plan Your Layout
Before you begin, measure the area and sketch your pattern. Cobble setts can be laid in rows, fans, or random patterns. Choose what fits your space.
2. Excavate the Area
Dig out the ground where you want to lay the setts.
Depth: Usually 150–250mm (depends on traffic load)
Remove any grass, soil, or debris.
3. Prepare the Base
Add a layer of crushed stone or gravel (called the sub-base)
Compact it firmly using a plate compactor
For driveways, this base is extra important to prevent shifting
4. Lay the Bedding Layer
On top of the base, add a layer of sharp sand or mortar (about 30–50mm thick).
This helps level the surface and holds the stones in place.
5. Lay the Setts
Place each cobble one by one.
Use a rubber mallet to tap them in, keeping the height and gaps consistent.
Leave about 5–10mm gaps between stones if you want a traditional look.
6. Fill the Joints
You can fill the joints with:
Dry kiln sand (for pedestrian areas)
Cement mortar (for stronger, long-lasting results)
Brush the jointing material into gaps, then water lightly if needed.
7. Final Compaction
Once all setts are in place, compact the whole area again. This helps the stones settle and locks them in.
