1. Site Preparation

Mark the line where the curb stones will be placed.

Excavate a trench to the required depth and width.

Ensure the base level is consistent along the entire line.

2. Base Construction

Add a compacted sub-base (crushed stone or gravel).

Place a concrete foundation layer, usually 100–150 mm thick depending on load requirements.

Level the concrete while still wet to prepare for kerb placement.

3. Positioning the Curb Stones

Set each curb stone into the fresh concrete base.

Use a rubber mallet to adjust and align the stones.

Maintain uniform gaps between stones (usually 5–10 mm).

Ensure the top surface is level and aligned with the design line.

4. Joint Filling

Fill gaps with mortar or dry sand mix.

Compact the joints to prevent shifting.

For heavy-duty applications, expansion joints may be added.

5. Backfilling and Support

Backfill behind the curb with concrete or compacted soil for stability.

Apply slope or haunching concrete along the rear edge for additional support.

Allow the concrete to cure for 24–48 hours before applying traffic load.

6. Finishing

Clean the curb stones to remove cement stains.

Inspect alignment, height, and surface finish.

Ensure drainage slope is properly maintained along the curb line.
